Substance Use Peer Support Specialist

General Information:
This employee carries out rehabilitation and support functions and assists in treatment of substance use clients.  Provides direct services, education, support, and consultation to consumers and their families.  Works with a challenging population of patients, often from diverse backgrounds, with varying degrees of life stress and comorbid medical conditions. Includes providing care to clients with co-occurring substance use disorders. Provides services in the community as well as in consumer homes. Will be required to transport persons served in an MPNN CSB vehicle.  This position works closely with other staff using a team approach. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in contact with staff, clients, families, public, and service providers. 

Minimum Training and Experience:

Certified Peer Support Recovery Specialist certification is required and at least one year experience working with adults with substance use disorders. Must have been the recipient of mental health services in order to relate to consumers as a peer in recovery.

 



Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid Virginia's Driver's License and driving record acceptable to agency insurance carrier.  Must obtain a TB test with satisfactory results by orientation, and yearly thereafter as required by licensing authority.
