Mental Health Outpatient Coordinator

General Information:

Under limited direction, performs supervisory and administrative work overseeing all mental health outpatient operations of the Gloucester Counseling Center.  Work involves providing direct clinical services to individuals with Mental Health and Substance Use problems; supervising assigned therapists, interns and administrative assistants and monitoring and recommending staffing needs.  Employee is responsible for providing direct services using various techniques such as: individual, group, marital, and family therapy; comprehensive intake evaluations; care coordination and consultation.  Employee provides intensive training for clinical staff, and assists in the development of clinical programs and the budget.  Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in contact with CSB and State officials, individuals served in the programs and the general public.  Coordinates closely with supervisors and managers of other CSB programs and services.  Reports to the Director of Clinical Services.


  • Provides administrative and clinical supervision to clinical staff who provide consultation, therapeutic services, and education to individuals with Mental Health and Substance Use problems as well as supervision of administrative office professionals who provide support to the Center.
  • Provides direct services to individuals with Mental Health and Substance Use issues using various direct services techniques such as: individual, marital, family, and group therapy; comprehensive intake evaluations, care coordination and consultative services.
  •  Maintains clinical records on all interactions with individuals assigned, reviews/approves clinical documentation/records for clinical staff under his/her supervision, monitors and approves time worked and time off requests for staff, insures compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Develops written policies and procedures for mental health outpatient services including procedural workflow and guidance documents for staff.
  • Provides intensive training to clinical staff on all aspects of diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention methods using various presentations, supervision, and review seminars.
  • Participates in Management Team meetings, administrative staff meetings, and workshops to address management and administrative issues and assist in program development.
  • Assists in the development of new clinical services or programs particularly those that are revenue producing.
  • Offers periodic presentations to the general public on a variety of mental health and substance use topics.
  • Assists in the recruitment and hiring of staff; conducts performance evaluations on all immediate subordinates.
  • May participate in FAP Team and other multi-disciplinary groups to develop strategies for handling at-risk youth.
  • Maintains liaison with agencies, hospitals, jails, law enforcement officers, and individuals in the community which assist individuals served and provide aftercare services.
  • Participates in and attends training workshops, seminars, and meetings as required.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Required Education and/or Experience:

Master's Degree in social work, counseling, sociology, psychology, or a related field and licensure as a mental health professional in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCP, LCSW or LPC); 3 to 5 years of professional clinical/therapy training and experience, considerable experience in a clinical supervisory and administrative capacity.

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Virginia Driver's License.
  • Must obtain a TB test with satisfactory results within 30 days of employment and annually thereafter as required by licensing authority.
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certifications.
  • Must maintain all additional trainings as required by regulatory and/or licensing entities.
  • TRAVEL throughout the MPNN CSB, and the DBHDS Region 5 is required.
