Prescribe psychotropic medications as per Psychiatric Practice agreement between Psychiatric nurse practitioner and supervising Psychiatrist.
Practice the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) including the use of Buprenorphine.
Monitors effects of medications and/or side effects experienced by clients; reports results to psychiatrist.
Teaches clients and families about indications, contraindications, side effects, and actions of psychotropic prescription medications.
Collaborates and consults with a variety of professionals and agencies regarding medication management of Mental Health and Substance Abuse clients.Maintains complete, accurate, and current clinical records and charts, documenting pre-screening and clinical data, treatment plans, hospitalization requirements, progress notes, medication records, daily activities, community resource necessity, pre-discharge planning, and program participation.
Provides liaison communications between psychiatrists, on-call clinicians, staff psychiatrists, law enforcement officers, hospital personnel, etc.; coordinates a variety of services with internal and outside professionals and care-givers.
REQUIRED:Commonwealth of Virginia license as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, Prescriptive Authority license in Virginia and current U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency registration for controlled substances. Completion of Buprenorphine Waiver Training or willingness to complete such training for Medication Assisted Treatment.
PREFERRED: 3 to 5 years of experience in psychiatric nursing.
Must obtain a TB test with satisfactory results by the first day of employment, and yearly thereafter as required by licensing authority. Must be a Registered Nurse certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Possess a current US Drug Enforcement Agency Registration for controlled substances.
