General Information:
The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) provides peer support services; serves as a consumer advocate; provides consumer information and peer support for consumers in emergency crisis at the CIT RASC. The PPS provides peer support and counseling. The HS provides consumer and, family education services related to Peer Support and Recovery. Having experienced a severe mental illness, the Peer Support Specialist assists the other members of the team to understand the clients' perspective and subjective experience, The PSS serves as an advocate for consumers with in the agency and the community. HS perform a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process. NS Participate in treatment team meetings and client satisfaction monitoring. Provides training in recovery and leads recovery dialogues. Participates in training and other educational opportunities as available. The HS will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills.

Minimum Training and Experience:


  1. Experience as a consumer of mental health, mental retardation, or substance abuse

  2. Certification/Readiness to Work provided by Master's level Mental Health provider

  3. Written Recommendations from a Mental Health Provider: QMHP or higher

  4. Ability to communicate effectively with other consumers. 

  5. Ability and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

  1. CIT Trained

  2. High School or GED Equivalency plus Graduation from Peer to Peer Support Specialist Training, or WRAP Facilitator training. Equivalent experience of one to two years active participation in self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, consumer-run organizations, or similar programs, including paid or volunteer experience with adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses.

  3. Self-knowledge and ability to manage personal mental illness issues, plus model recovery principles by personal experience demonstrating significant progress in personal MH recovery.

  4. 12 months sobriety or drug free, documented by Counselor, or Sponsor as confirmed by an affirmation letter, (if Co-occurring diagnosis exists)

  5. Must pass Criminal Background Check
